The Royal Marsden, together with its academic partner, The Institute of Cancer Research, London, forms the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, treating over 50,000 patients every year. It is the UK’s only National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) dedicated solely to cancer.

Our aim is to drive pioneering research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, and to translate advances in biomedical research into patient benefits.

We were first awarded NIHR BRC status in 2006 and this was subsequently re-awarded in 2011 for a further five years. Our BRC uses advances in science to improve patient outcome and experience for patients across the country and at the global level. We split our work, broadly, into two main themes: The molecular classification of disease and cancer therapeutics. Our research is diverse and covers areas such as drug development and health services research.

We are proud to be a world leader in cancer treatment, using NIHR funding to drive forward further progress.

On this new website you’ll find information about our research trials, both ongoing and past trials, details about our internationally renowned research teams, and explanation of our leading-edge facilities. There is also news about the latest research findings and breakthroughs and our work in patient and public engagement

I hope you’ll enjoy browsing this site and learning more about the work of the BRC. There is also the opportunity to submit your ideas and thoughts for future research or collaborations.
