The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust  and The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) have successfully renewed their joint Biomedical Research Centre for a further five years, from April 2017.

The funding will support our new joint research strategy, which aims to combat cancer evolution and drug resistance - the single biggest challenge in cancer research and treatment.

Professor David Cunningham, Director of the NIHR BRC, said: “We are proud to have been awarded NIHR funding for a further five years, and remain as the only dedicated BRC to cancer. It is the third time we have been awarded this prestigious grant.

“The BRC will be pivotal in delivering our new joint research strategy developed with the ICR which will drive our innovative research programme designed to aid earlier diagnosis and develop smarter, kinder treatments that significantly reduce side effects and allow patients to live well and beyond cancer.”

The international peer review panel highlighted that the partnership was very strong in translational cancer research and the Trust and the ICR were commended on their patient and public involvement and engagement work.
