Cancer Imaging is a major strength at The Royal Marsden – leading edge research has translated to improved patient diagnostics and disease management. However, traditional approaches cannot realise the full potential of imaging data. Imaging provides a fertile ground for artificial intelligence (AI) research and application, which can generate new knowledge and transform outcomes for patients with cancer. We will:

  • Harness the full potential of imaging and AI to transform data into novel insights and clinical decision-making tools to empower patients and improve their outcomes.
  • Create an exemplar multidisciplinary team for a future-orientated radiology department which is able to deliver the informatics bench to bedside imperative for patient benefit.
  • Deliver expertise in the development, assessment, validation and commercialisation of AI tools in radiology including clinical trial design.

Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPI/E)

We work closely with our patient and public representatives who ensure the views and needs of patients, and those who support them, are carefully considered. Our PPI/E representatives actively contribute to all aspects of our work, from our strategy to the development and implementation of our plans and individual projects. With personal experience of cancer themselves, they provide invaluable insight and perspective so that every stage of our research remains relevant and beneficial for patients.

Patient and Public Involvement in research

In partnership with The Royal Marsden, the BRC offers opportunities for patients and the public to be involved in research. The BRC also offers support to researchers interested in involving patients in their work.
