NIHR funding for Clinical Research Facility

The NIHR has awarded £2.5 million to fund the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at The Royal Marsden and the ICR until 2022

Established following an initial £2.8 million grant in 2012, the CRF supports our research programme by facilitating the development of imaging techniques using advanced equipment to help guide and deliver therapy, so that patients can benefit from personalised treatment and care.

Smarter, faster and more accurate imaging can lead to earlier diagnosis, which is a key aspect of the NHS national cancer strategy.

The CRF is embedded in The Royal Marsden’s diagnostic imaging departments to allow efficient operation with multidisciplinary teams working across different imaging modalities.

In 2015/16, 1,000 patient visits across 100 clinical trials conducted through the CRF provided information on the location, appearance and biological behaviour of tumours, enabling us to treat cancers in the most accurate way for each patient.
