Vision

The rapid translation of advances in research to improve the outcomes for patients with cancer through precision treatment.

Mission statement

To discover and develop advances in cancer staging, prognosis and treatment of national and international importance.

Strategic aims

  • Enhance the personalisation of cancer care by tailoring treatment regimens to the genetic make‑up of the tumour and of the individual, working with industry partners to increase the number of therapeutic options available to patients
     
  • Implement new approaches to clinical trials that will integrate the identification and validation of biomarkers of response and prognosis
     
  • Optimise and enhance existing methods and develop and investigate new approaches to surgery and radiotherapy
     
  • Provide opportunities for improved cancer diagnosis, treatment, surveillance and prevention
     
  • Personalise and individualise patient care throughout the entire patient journey, including survivorship and palliative care, through excellent health services research
     
  • Work in partnership with other centres of excellence, ensuring that the right expertise is used to deliver research with the potential to change clinical practice in the UK and worldwide
     
  • Invest in current and future leaders and supporting all levels of staff through formal and informal routes, providing them with modern facilities and the use of cutting edge technologies
     
  • Ensure that additional external funding is leveraged through the BRC from both national and international sources to further support our research and help drive forward the UK economy
